Dr. Muhammad Umair Khan

Associate Professor (CEN)

I am Dr. Muhammad Umair Khan, an Assistant Professor in the Computer Engineering Department at the National University of Technology (NUTECH), Islamabad. With over 13 years of experience in academia and research, I hold a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a specialization in Control Systems. My expertise lies in adaptive control systems, intelligent control strategies, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) with advanced computational methods. I dedicate my research to the development of robust control techniques for dynamic and nonlinear systems, utilizing AI-driven solutions to address real-world challenges.

In addition to my research contributions, I am deeply committed to teaching and mentoring future engineers and computer scientists. I have extensive experience delivering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in computer programming, data structures, operating systems, advanced algorithms, and control systems. My teaching philosophy emphasizes equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in computer science and engineering disciplines.

Computer Programming (CEN1008): An introductory course focusing on programming concepts using Python, covering topics such as variables, control structures, functions, and basic data structures.
Data Structures and Algorithms (CEN2018): A core course that covers fundamental data structures (e.g., arrays, linked lists, trees, graphs) and algorithmic techniques (e.g., sorting, searching, recursion) with a focus on computational complexity.
Operating Systems (CEN3005): A course covering the fundamental concepts of operating systems, including process management, memory management, file systems, and inter-process communication.
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) (CEN1004): An introductory course exploring the role of ICT in society. Topics include network fundamentals, internet technologies, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and the social and ethical implications of ICT. Students also learn about emerging trends in ICT and their applications in business and education.
Database Management Systems (CEN3010): A comprehensive course introducing relational database systems, covering database design, normalization, SQL queries, and database management. Topics also include data modeling, transaction management, and database security.
Object-Oriented Programming (CEN2001): A course that introduces object-oriented principles using C++. Topics include classes, objects, inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, and abstraction. Students develop skills in designing modular and reusable code with hands-on projects.
Advanced Algorithms Analysis and Design (CEN-6007): A graduate-level course delving into advanced topics like greedy algorithms, divide-and- conquer, and graph algorithms. Students focus on algorithm analysis techniques, performance optimization, and practical applications in real-world systems.
Intelligent Control Systems (CEN-7335): An advanced course that introduces techniques such as fuzzy logic, neural networks, and genetic algorithms for control systems. Students learn to design adaptive controllers for nonlinear and dynamic systems, focusing on real-world applications in robotics and automation.
Electronic Devices and Circuits (CEN2008): A foundational course focusing on the principles and applications of electronic devices such as diodes, BJTs (Bipolar Junction Transistors), MOSFETs (Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field- Effect Transistors), and operational amplifiers. The course covers circuit design and analysis techniques, including rectifiers, amplifiers, oscillators, and switching circuits.
Control Engineering (CEN4109): A course exploring feedback control systems, including system modeling, transfer functions, and stability analysis. Topics include PID controllers, root locus techniques, and frequency response methods. Students use tools like MATLAB/Simulink for simulation and design.

My research focuses on the development of adaptive control systems and intelligent control strategies for nonlinear and dynamic systems. I am particularly interested in hybrid control techniques, including neural fuzzy systems and sliding mode control. My work has been published in high-impact journals. I have contributed to areas such as vibration suppression, adaptive PID control, and advanced fuzzy control systems. My recent projects explore innovative control methodologies for flexible spacecraft and multi-body systems, ensuring stability and optimal performance under dynamic conditions. Additionally, I have presented my work at multiple international conferences and contributed to academic literature through publications on adaptive control techniques.
